International communication language!

We try to convince ourselves that we live in civilised societies but we can’t even understand somebody on the other side of the nation border. The language barrier is a barbaric obstacle which prevents us from coming in close contact with our fellow creatures. We should therefore introduce an international communication language.

Our language is an amazing tool which has enabled mankind’s huge successes. If it wasn’t for our language we couldn’t coordinate our hunting to bring down large pray, exchange knowledge, ideas and learn from each other’s experience. We evolved gradually and became more complex, so did the language. But our language still has the same ridiculous restriction today as it did thousand years ago, we can’t make us understood everywhere.

Some will most likely refer to the English language and claim that it is an international language. I can partly agree with that because it is spoken in several countries and a lot of people can understand English, but it is not enough. According to a study by Erica Lind, a language researcher at the University of Lund, ¾ of all people around the world have a very restricted or no English understanding. Lind’s explanation for that quite chocking statistic is that the inhabitants of a country may feel that it is a language which has been forced on them or that it sometimes is too complicated.

The language barrier is not only a social boundary but just as much an economic one which limits and prevents our freedom of movement. Just imagine being able to travel to any country all around the world and immediately get an employment and communicate without being forced to learn an unnecessary language. Imagine being able to understand people. I don’t refer to individuals in particular countries, but citizens around and of our whole globe.

Some say that the language is an invaluable part of the cultures and that you lose an essential part if you disregard it. I couldn’t agree more. An international language will not overshadow the national language and culture, it would be the case vice versa. It will render possible to fully understand, learn from and appreciate the differences that make us unique. And it will not be rejected by anyone because, unlike the English language, this language will not be spread by the point of the sword or be too difficult for anybody to understand.
According to the Bible the Tower of Babel was a tower built to reach the heavens by a united humanity. God, observing the unity of humanity in the construction, resolves to destroy the tower and confuse the previously uniform language of humanity, thereby preventing any such future efforts. Let’s accomplish greatness once again by understanding each other and make the world a better place for everybody.
